Urban environments are increasingly hectic and sonically unpleasant.

Sound and music appeal directly to the emotions.

There is no language barrier involved in the perception of wordless sound.

With these thoughts in mind, I intend to try to make a difference in people's lives by offering them "sonic oases" where they can escape the cacophony.

To achieve this I create "Calm Spaces": relaxing immersive sound-environments featuring gentle beat-free music in public spaces.

These spaces are available to all... and free of charge.

Intruments played:

  • Analogue and digital synthesisers
  • Electric and classical guitars
  • Fretted and fretless basses
  • Nordic lyre

Practice:

  • I acquired my first reel-to-reel tape recorder at the age of eleven. It was then that I started experimenting with creating sound loops and "radio stories".
  • I have been playing guitar since I was sixteen. I have played in bands and gigged locally for many years.
  • At about 17 I became interested in using analogue synthesisers to create ambient soundscapes.
  • I create sounds and music at home using a personal computer as a recording studio.
  • I have recently been creating "Calm Space" installations at public events.
  • I have recorded several CD albums, the latest of which is called "Calm Space". It features some of my longer ambient works.

News: Uncarved Block MP3s on sale at Ambient Music Garden.com! :-)

I've joined an online distributor, called Ambient Music Garden.com, to promote and sell my music.

You can go to the main Ambient Music Garden.com page and look for the Artists' Pages section on the right, or go directly to my page by following this link: Uncarved Block on Ambient Music Garden.com

There is a lot of my music there, in various styles from chill-out to ambient to meditative.

Clips of each tune are carefully chosen by Ambient Music Garden to represent the essence of the complete work. Bear in mind that the clips are quite "lo-fi"... the actual downloads are MP3 files at 192 kbs, so they'll sound a great deal better than the preview clips and the tracks on the Uncarved Block MySpace player.

The Ambient Music Garden site is mainly aimed at providing music for therapists to use in their practice, but all the music will be great for listening to at home or wherever you like to relax.

While you're on the site you might like to check out some of the other artist's work too. The overall quality of the music is excellent and will keep you browsing for ages!
