The Calm Space Tent

Culturegen Creative Village, Staffordshire County Showground, Stafford, England

Wednesday, 30th and Thursday 31st May, 2007

Plan of the tents (small image)

Click here to listen to an audio demonstration.

NOTE: The sound on this website is low-bitrate Windows Media Audio. This format was chosen because it allows real-time, stereo audio streaming over a dial-up Internet connection; not everyone has broadband. The sound used for the actual installations is of a far higher quality. Installations feature other sound-works in addition to those on this website.

Uncarved Block will have a small "Calm Space" installation at the County Show.

This will be in a smaller tent connected to the main Culturegen tent. (click here to see a plan of the tents)

There will be soft lighting as before, but because the installation will be under canvas and during daylight hours, the lighting might not be seen at its best. We are hoping to get some blackout fabric to improve matters. The sound, however, will be lovely!

The Staffordshire County Show installation went quite well. Lots of people visited the Calm Space Tent for free aromatherapy hand massages and to enjoy the sounds.

Unfortunately, one of the helpers who was going to bring some blackout curtains was unable to be there, due to injury, so we couldn't use the video projector because there was so much light coming through the walls of the tent.

Happily though, the sound gear held up very well and we had plenty of compliments about the sounds.

The highlight of the two days came when Uncarved Block was invited to discuss providing background music for Stafford Shire Hall Gallery's "Multi-Sensory Room". Further information about this opportunity will be posted on this page when it becomes available.
